Little acts of kindness

It is possible to find kindness in this world. You just have to know where to look.

We live in a troubled world. And sometimes, little acts of kindness throw you off. Catch you offguard. And I’m talking about the littlest of acts. Not big shows of generosity and charity. Small ones.

Like the auto driver who stops you when you’re rummaging for that one rupee coin that always eludes you and says, “It’s okay. I don’t need it.”

Like the bus conductor whom you asked for help in locating your exact bus stop, who comes up to you and says, “I’m switching buses at the next stop. Are you sure you’ll be okay?”

Like the random stranger on the street who misses his own bus so that he can help a blind man catch his.

Like the elderly couple on the street who stop you when you’re looking completely lost and ask if they can help you find what you’re looking for.

Like the friend who pretends she too likes your favourite movie, even though she doesn’t just so you won’t feel hurt.

Like the sibling who lets you win a match of tennis when he could easily have won, just because he knows you have a friend in the audience you want to impress.

Like the mother who tries to listen to and like rock music, just because you love it. Even though she thinks its crap.

Like the father who frowns when say you like a pair of particularly expensive shoes, but gets them for you anyway.

Like the women on the train who share their food with you when they find out you haven’t brought any.

Like the girl in class who makes a copy of the CD she knows you like and gives it to you free of cost, even though you’ve hardly ever talked to her.

Like the boyfriend who buys his girlfriend tickets to a concert and goes along with her, even though he couldn’t be less interested in music.

Like the wife who goes to a cricket match with her crazy-about-cricket husband and spends the whole day watching a game she truly despises, but pretends she’s enjoying.

Like I said, kindness is everywhere. You just have to look for it.
